Dr. Takacs Answers Your Questions: How do I have time to exercise?

Question:  I know you’ve told me that because I commute to work and sit most of the day that I need to get some exercise. But Dr. T.,  I just don’t have the time!  What should I do?

Dr. Takacs says...
There is a concept regarding time that is key...time is something YOU create.  And unless you decide to apply this concept to your life...it’s true..you won’t have any time!  You must create a schedule to put your exercise time into (I do it first thing in the morning).

Secondly, you must take responsibility for that house you walk around in.  Since you can’t easily buy it new parts, you need to keep those muscles (& your heart is a muscle too!)  in tip-top shape so that it performs for you and serves your lifestyle needs.

You ARE worth the effort! The ball’s in your court....

Success With Chiropractic Care

"After 5 weeks with Dr. Takacs, I am pain-free!  I’ve lived with neck and shoulder pain for 7 or 8 years.  I went through physical therapy twice for it, visited an orthodontist for TMJ pain and spent thousands of dollars trying to make it better.

After all that, the pain and weakness returned.  I thought I would just live with it.  I took Ibuprofen every day for the past 2 years.

I’m happy to report I haven’t needed Ibuprofen now for over a week!  I see the light at the end of the tunnel!  I’m pain-free!"

Dr. Takacs Answers Your Questions: Why should I keep going to the chiropractor?

Question: I’ve been getting adjusted for over a  year and when I come in for an
adjustment, I don’t have any health problems.  Why should I keep coming?

Dr. Takacs says...
Great question!  But I think you meant to say that you don’t have any ‘symptoms’ not ‘problems.’  You see, health problems (like diseases such as asthma, allergies, osteoarthritis, cancer etc.) take years... and sometimes decades to develop.

It’s great that you feel good!  So why not continue doing those things that got you there in the first place?  Things like eating right, taking vitamins, exercising, chiropractic etc. etc..

You should only continue coming if you think it’s important to have your brain connected to your body!  I know that might sound harsh...but it is the truth!  The purpose of chiropractic has always been to ensure that your nerve system, which controls your immune system, digestive system, muscle system, hormonal system, etc., is in communication with the body.  When a communication system fails...so goes the rest of the system!   Enuf said...

Dr. Takacs Answers Your Questions: Orthotics

Question:  I’ve seen you wearing orthotics in the office.  Do you think they’d help my foot problems too?

Dr. Takacs says...
More than likely yes!  However, the only patients I’d recommend  them to are those who have already received corrective chiropractic care.  This is because we need to ensure that your spine, hips, knees, ankles and feet are correctly aligned prior to taking a cast of  your feet.  Only then can misalignment and biomechanical issues of the foot be addressed and handled.

Takacs Wellness Centers' Community Relations Director Recognized as Irish Ambassador

The original article appeared in multiple Straus News outlets, as well as the New Jersey Herald.

YONKERS, N.Y. — Brielle Takacs-Senske of Sparta and Jeremy Slate of Hamburg were named Rose and Ambassador at the annual Rose of Tralee competition for young Irish Leaders at Empire City Casino.
Each year, one girl is selected to represent New York, New Jersey and Connecticut in Ireland and New York has always had a strong showing in the international level of the contest.

Each young lady, known as a Rose, was led by a gentleman suitor, known as an Ambassador, though both parts of the pair are ambassadors for Irish Heritage. This year’s event, led by Master of Ceremonies Seamus Keane of The Narrowbacks band, added a youthful Irish presence.

The girls introduced themselves to the crowd, talked of charity, family stories and how they would help to preserve their Irish heritage. It was followed by ambassador interviews who were asked about the charity of their choosing.

As local representatives for the Foundation for a Drug-Free World, Slate and Takacs-Senske promoted the message of ending drug addiction and saving countless lives through education. The foundation has recently started a grassroots movement in Ireland to further the cause.

Takacs Wellness Center Raises Money for Local Stroke Victim

This article was originally published on October 24, 2014: http://www.advertisernewsnorth.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20121024/NEWS01/121029946/Fundraiser-for-local-stroke-victim-Nov-30

SPARTA — As a 53-year-old healthy and active woman of faith, Robin Slate was not someone anyone could foresee suffering from a stroke.

Since March 10, however, she has been on the slow and painful road to recovery. She remains permanently disabled, struggling daily with loss of motion and aphasia, or loss of language ability.

Receiving no governmental support and unable to work, Robin and her family have faced many emotional and financial hardships over the past half-year. After spending six months in medical facilities, she and her family have been hit hard with large medical bills.

To honor Robin Slate, Takacs Wellness Center, the Knights of Columbus and Nothing Is Impossible, Inc. will be hosting a fundraiser to help cover the family’s outstanding medical expenses and educate her community about stroke symptoms. Through the dissemination of information, the Slate family and these organizations hope to help community members recognize the warning signs of a stroke so that their families can avoid similar pain and suffering.

On Friday, Nov. 30, the Robin Slate Foundation invites the community to a night of dinner, dancing and a silent auction at McKenna Hall in Sparta, starting at 6 p.m. The cost is $25 per person and all proceeds will go directly to the foundation. Checks should be made out to Nothing is Impossible, Inc. and "The Slate Fund" should be written on the memo line. They can be mailed to The Robin Slate Foundation at 82 Route 15, Lafayette, NJ 07848.

RSVPs are requested by Nov. 19 by emailing robinslatefoundation@gmail.com or calling Brielle at 973-670-7002. Also, join the Facebook page at Make It a Date for Robin Slate.

The sold out event was attended by over 200 guests.

Lorel Massage Therapy and Takacs Wellness Center Making Headlines

Lorel Massage Therapy, located within Takacs Wellness Center, was recently high lighted in the Sparta Independent and online in the Straus News.  View the article below:

"Offering special attention to clients has kept Larry Lore's Lorel Massage Therapy in business for years.

No matter how long he's had a particular client — some of whom have been coming to him for more than a decade — he always starts each session with a short interview to get an understanding as to what the day's aches and pains may be and what sort of massage the client would like.

Changing careers
A former stand out high school football player, wrestler and track athlete, the Sparta resident graduated from Rutgers University and had a desk job for many years. In 2000, he realized that though he didn't mind the work, increasingly he did mind the lack of activity.
At age 45, he decided to completely change careers.
His wife, Dr. Michelle Takacs, fully backed her husband's desire to go to massage school and change occupations.

'Sometimes people kind of go through the motions doing something,' said Lore. 'I liked that doing massage would keep me in physical shape and the prospect about helping people feel better.'

Lore came up with the name Lorel because it combines his last name with his wife's first. It also happens to be his last name followed by his first initial. At 6 feet, one inch, Lore's build and athletic background enables him to provide good, deep tissue massages. The keys to his success are being able to apply constant pressure, knowing all of the trigger points, and individualizing each massage.
As a father of three, Lore said being a massage therapist allowed him flexibility.

'I was able to schedule my clients around his practices and games during that period of his life which meant I could always be there,' said Lore of his son's busy teen football schedule.

Flexibility also meant working around his clients' schedules.

'As a therapist, you can't say when you will and will not work,' Lore said. 'Being flexible and working nights and weekends is part of the business.'

Though Lore and his wife have separate businesses, they combine forces through The Foundation for Wellness Professionals which is a national organization of which they run a local chapter. Proceeds from the foundation go toward local charities including Project Self-Sufficiency, Knights of Columbus and other charities in need. The health-promoting couple volunteer their time by doing health fairs and things like recently volunteering at the Helen Morgan School, in Sparta, to give teachers massages and health screenings during their lunch hour.

'Massage is viewed by many as a luxury, but it's really an integral part of a health regime,' Lore said. 'It makes the body feel better and de-stresses the mind.'"
